3rd suspect in Horseheads armed home invasion captured
UPDATE 1/25/2018 10:00 P.M. (WENY) -- The 3rd home invasion suspect wanted in connection to the Wednesday night incident in the Town of Horseheads, has been captured.
19-year-old Drew P. Stansfield was booked into the Chemung County Jail as of 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, according to an inmate database.
He was booked on a charge of Robbery in the 1st degree, and bail was set at $75,000.
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - The Chemung County Sheriff's Office is still looking for one suspect in connection with a home invasion in Horseheads.
Deputies responded to a home on Overlook Drive in Horseheads around 11:30pm Wednesday night after receiving a 9-1-1 call of a home invasion robbery and shooting.
According to the Sheriff's Office, three men entered the home, armed with a loaded rifle, and demanded cash from the homeowners. The Sheriff's Office says a physical altercation took place between the residents and one of the suspects. During that fight, 18-year-old Elmira resident Daiquan Bythwood was allegedly shot by the homeowner.
Police say all three suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan. Bythwood was taken to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Elmira by the other two suspects. He was then transferred to Robert Packer Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for a gunshot wound. He remains in critical condition at the hospital.
The second suspect, 17-year-old Elmira resident Zhamere Charriez, was found by Elmira Police and taken into custody. He's charged with 1st degree Robbery. He's being held in the Chemung County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
The Sheriff's Office says they're still trying to find the third suspect. He's been identified as 19-year-old Horseheads native Drew Stansfield. The Sheriff's Office says Stanfield is a white man, with a thin build and short blond hair. He's about 5'10". He was last seen wearing dark sweatpants and a dark-colored long sleeve shirt.
