ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) - An elementary school teacher in Elmira Heights has been cleared in an investigation into an allegation of sexual misconduct against a child.

According to a post on Facebook, a parent reported to the Elmira Heights Central School District on January 25th that their child said she had been inappropriately touched by a teacher at Cohen Elementary School. Superintendent Mary Beth Fiore says the school immediately contacted authorities and began an internal investigation. Police also began investigating the report. The teacher was removed from the classroom during the investigations.

Fiore says the school district was alerted Thursday the investigation had been concluded. Elmira Heights Police tell WENY News the teacher was officially cleared.

The school district says it is reaching out to the family and will do anything it can to support the child. Fiore says the district is also supporting the teacher as he returns to the classroom.
