Corning woman arrested for allegedly smoking pot, leaving children home alone
UPDATE (8/8/18) -- According to the City of Corning Court, Edelmann's charges have been reduced to one count of Disorderly Conduct. The court says she will pay a fine and be subject to one year conditional discharge.
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) – Corning Police have arrested a woman after she allegedly left her young children home alone to go smoke marijuana.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, members of the Corning Police Department were alerted to the sounds of screaming and a possible disturbance in an upstairs room on Davis Street.
Officers investigating further and found a car running in the driveway of the same home. After further investigation, they found a woman asleep behind the wheel.
The woman, 39-year-old Joy Edelmann, allegedly left her three young children unattended in the home while she was out with a friend allegedly smoking marijuana.
Edelmann was arrested and charged with three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, one count of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and one count of Unlawfully Growing Cannabis.
She was arraigned and scheduled to be back in court a later date.
