Endicott Man Accused of Stealing ATM, Firing BB Gun At Detectives
Endicott, N.Y. (WENY)-- An Endicott man is facing charges after he allegedly stole an ATM and fired a BB gun at police in two separate incidents.
According to the Endicott Police Department, two Endicott Police detectives were investigating an unrelated burglary on Duane Ave. That's when they say 47-year-old Angel T. Rohena fired a BB Rifle multiple times in vicinity of the two detectives. Rohena was later taken into custody without incident. While arresting Rohena, police say they found a Ruger Carbine Rifle inside his home. They say the serial number on the rifle was defaced. No one was hurt in the incident. Rohena was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Reckless Endangerment.
A couple of days later, while in custody, Rohena was also charged with Burglary. That charge is a result of an investigation into a burglary at Upper Cuts Barbershop in the Village of Endicott. Police say just days before the alleged BB gun incident, Rohena broke into the business and stole an ATM containing an undisclosed amount of money. Police say they later recovered a portion of the stolen money at a home in the Town of Maine. With the assistance of the New York State Police Dive Team, police also found the stolen ATM in the Susquehanna River.
The Burglary and Criminal Possession of a Weapon charges are Felonies while the Reckless Endangerment charge is a Misdemeanor.
