20 Watkins Glen Businesses Reach out for DRI Funding
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Schuyler County Partnership for Economic Development has announced that 20 Watkins Glen businesses have reached out about funding from the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. With a large pool of money up for grabs, there are specific things that these funds can be requested and used towards.
This includes improvements to the outside of a structure, plus the renovations and conversions of apartments and commercial space. It was also revealed to me by SCOPED Economic Development Specialist Amanda Rodriguez, that many improvements will be coming to Franklin Street once all is said and done.
She also said, "We have very long term hopes for this funding. Not only will this funding improve the building in Watkins Glen, but it will also enable the businesses that operate out of those buildings to develop plans that they will be sustainable."
"This is so we will see the same businesses 10 years from now as opposed to new ones. Again, not only are buildings improving, but so are the businesses in those buildings."
As a reminder, 10 million dollars was awarded to the area back in 2017 through the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
