Binghamton man pleads guilty to Citizens Bank attempted robbery
BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- A local man admitted his guilt Thursday in trying to rob a Binghamton bank.
According to Broome County Court, 61-year-old Philip Stein pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted robbery in front of Judge Kevin Dooley.
Stein was arrested shortly after the March 7 attempted robbery at the Citizens Bank located at 247 Main Street.
Police say Stein entered the bank and gave the teller a note demanding cash and threatening the use of a gun, although no gun was ever displayed. Police also say no one was injured during the attempt.
Stein ran away from the bank before receiving any money, police say. Officers found Stein just north of the bank in the area of Glenwood Avenue near Foundry Plaza.
Stein is scheduled to be sentenced on June 7.
