Corning, N.Y. (WENY)-- The Corning Museum of Glass is opening a new exhibition this weekend, and it's sure to be something like you've never seen before.

New Glass Now features 100 contemporary pieces from 25 countries, all made within the past three years. The exhibition includes a diverse collection, ranging from women empowerment pieces, to socially engaging pieces, to technical craftsmanship pieces. When the museum launched an open call for submissions for New Glass Now, almost 4,000 pieces were entered. A group of four selectors then chose the 100 pieces to be included.

Susie Silbert, the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Glass at CMoG, says New Glass Now is an engaging and must-see exhibit.

"This is really a twice in a lifetime opportunity. There hasn't been an exhibition of this scope at this museum, or really anywhere in the world, treating glass in the last 40 years. If you want to know what is happening, the way that artists are thinking about this material that's so important to our region, this is the place to be, this is the place to come," Silbert says.

CMoG will unveil New Glass Now with a launch party on Saturday, May 11th at 8:00pm. Tickets are needed to enter, and space is limited. To purchase, click here: New Glass Now Launch Party

The exhibition will then open to the public on Sunday, May 12th. New Glass Now will be on display until January 5th, 2020. To learn more about it, click here: New Glass Now.
