Police investigate early morning shooting in Ithaca
ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) - The Ithaca Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened early Saturday morning.
According to police, an Ithaca Officer on patrol heard the sound of numerous gunshots coming from the 200 block of S. Cayuga Street. Tompkins County Dispatch advised that a 911 caller had stated there had been a shooting in a parking lot in the 200 block of S. Cayuga Street. IPD Officers responded to the area, where they talked with witnesses and gathered information. Police say no injuries were reported. Police say, the IPD Crime Scene Unit responded and processed the scene, which encompassed a very large area.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and suspect information is still being developed at this time.
Regarding this incident Chief Tyler stated "It's troubling to hear about this latest incident in an area so close to downtown where there were potentially lots of people out and about. It's fortunate nobody got hurt from this reckless and dangerous situation.
