Elmira Police investigating two reports of gunshots on city's eastside
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – Elmira Police are investigating after reports of gun shots and a disturbance “involving a large group of people” outside of Gush's Thirsty Bear on East Washington Street, as well as reports of shots fired in the nearby neighborhood.
Just after 10:00 Thursday night, police responded to the bar and spoke with several individuals whom officers say confirmed that gunshots were heard. No injuries or damages were reported.
While officers were in the are investigating the incident, they say they heard another round of gunshots in the area of Oak Street and Bakers Lane. This was also called in by area residents.
Police say one black male was seen jumping fences as he ran from the area. Officers say they found one spent shell casing.
Officers interviewed and they say limited information about the gun shots was obtained. Again, police say no injuries or damages were reported.
Residents in the area of Oak Street and Baker's Lane are asked to check their properties and contact the police if evidence of a shooting is found.
