Police: Man dies after trailer fire in Caton
UPDATE (3:45 p.m.) The Steuben County Sheriff's Office tells WENY News the man seriously injured after his trailer caught on fire in the town of Caton has died.
According to Sheriff Jim Allard, the victim was 40-year-old Andrew Marmuscak.
Allard says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
CATON, N.Y. (WENY) – Officials say one person was seriously injured after a trailer caught on fire in the Town of Caton.
According to the Caton Volunteer Fire Department, around 2:15 Monday morning, crews were dispatched to a fully involved trailer fire.
Upon arrival, officials say they rescued one person who had second degree burns on “approximately 80% of his body”. The victim was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Firefighters from Caton were assisted on scene by Lindley and South Corning Fire Departments. Additional units were dispatched from North Corning, East Corning, Gang Mills, Painted Post and Big Flats, but were later recalled. During the fire, Webbs Mils and Golden Glow Fire Departments stood by at the Caton Fire Station to assist with any additional calls.
Officials say the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Steuben County Fire Investigators and the Steuben County Sheriff's Department.
