PINE CITY, N.Y. (WENY) – The woman convicted on animal abuse charges after officials seized nearly two dozen horses from a home on Comfort Hill was sentenced Thursday.

Cherie Middaugh was sentenced to 180 days in the Chemung County Jail. She is also prohibited from owning animals for two years.

As WENY News reported, Middaugh was found guilty on all 21 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals.

In May 2018, an investigation found 21 horses who were in poor living conditions and in serious need of medical attention. Animal control officers say they were covered in lice and standing in manure.
