Guthrie Health unveils new services in Big Flats
BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Thursday afternoon, Guthrie Health unveiled a new Specialties and Rehabilitation Services Building in Big Flats. In order to meet the needs of all patients in the Elmira-Corning area, officials say it was time to expand.
The new facility will provide patients with improved access to a variety of services, including the hand therapy room.
"We offer rehabilitation specialty services of the upper quarter, meaning the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, as well as general occupational therapy services. Some of the specialty services that we offer are custom splints for anywhere from the shoulder all the way down to the finger tip, as well as specialized treatments for various conditions," says Chris Canestaro, Occupational and Hand Therapist at Guthrie Clinic.
Doctors at the new facility will use state-of-the-art technologies for a variety of treatments. Chief of Orthopedics, Joseph Choi, says it was crucial to add a new clinic here in the Big Flats area.
"A lot of our patients are from the Chemung market here, and for the patients to have access to be able to come here without having to drive too far, I think was important to us. It was just to provide the best services to our patients in this area," says Dr. Choi.
In addition to the new services being offered, the design of the new facility will maximize privacy for patients.
"One facet of this that's particularly important to us is privacy. So this is a building that was structured for the best levels of privacy for our patients. So they don't hang out in waiting rooms, they go directly into an exam room where they're registered. They never leave that room," says Dr. Joseph Scopelliti, Guthrie President and CEO.
Guthrie will start seeing patients as of next Monday for their first services in the new location.
