39th annual Italian American Festival has kicked off!
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- Friday, was the first day of the 39th Annual Italian American Festival in Watkins Glen.
There's anything from authentic Italian food, to arts and crafts, live entertainment, rides and plenty more. It's a three day event, and each day there's something different to look forward to.
Friday evening, there will be live entertainment until 11:00 p.m., which is when vendors and amusements have the option to close. However, the beer and wine garden may continue to operate until midnight.
Festival President, Louie Perrazini, tells me this year you can expect to see some exciting additions.
"There's music going on pretty much the whole weekend. We have a few different food vendors here so you need to come down to at least try those out. A lot of craft people in for vending. So again, it's the norm, but there are some need additions to the festival," says Perrazini.
Saturday afternoon, the festival will open at noon and will kick off with the parade, which WENY news will be in. There will also be a pasta eating contest happening at 4:00 p.m., live entertainment throughout the night, and fireworks at 9:45 p.m. over Seneca Lake.
A vendor who has been returning to the festival for the past 10 years now says the festival is much more to him than just business.
"It's just a fun time. We enjoy all of the customers and the return people and the nice comments they have about the food and the service that we have. We really enjoy that. And it's just a big family get together," says Vincent Scuteri.
There's still plenty of time to get out to enjoy the festival! Parking is just $5.00 dollars and admission is free. The ride special they're offering is $20.00 to ride all rides, all day long.
