Jeffrey Epstein found dead in prison, reportedly by suicide
NEW YORK, N.Y. (WENY) -- Disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sex trafficking underage girls, has reportedly killed himself in prison, according to ABC News.
According to law enforcement officials, Epstein hanged himself and was transported to the hospital while in cardiac arrest shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
He was arrested in July on accusations of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls in New York and Florida, with accusations stemming from as long as the early 2000s. He was set to stand trial next year.
In 2007, Epstein had faced similar charges in Florida, but reached a non-prosecution agreement to plead guilty to state charges and avoid federal charges. He spent 13-months in a county jail.
Officials say he had been under suicide watch since July 23, when he was found unresponsive in his cell "with marks on his neck".
