MANSFIELD, PA. (WENY) – Residents in the Borough of Mansfield and Richmond Township have been placed under a boil water advisory.

According to the Mansfield Municipal Authority, on Sunday, there was a failure of a filtration or disinfection process at the facility on Shaw Road. Because of the failure, officials say there's an increased chance the water could contain harmful microbes.

Officials say the chlorine feed was restored to normal Sunday morning, but they are collecting samples to make sure there is no bacteria in the water; therefore, the boil advisory was put into place as a precaution.

All water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation should be brought to a boil and boiled for one minute until further notice.

Officials say if you encounter persistent symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, cramps and headaches after drinking water, you should seek medical attention.
