Pennsylvania man pleads guilty to knowingly transporting illegal aliens
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to knowingly transporting illegal aliens within the U.S. for the purpose of financial gain.
Jaswinder Singh, 30, appeared before a federal judge in Utica on Friday.
He admitted that while working as a driver for a ridesharing company, he picked up two aliens who had recently cross into the country from Canada illegally. They paid him $2,200.
Singh also admitted that he transported several other aliens in exchange for money between January and May 2019.
He will be sentenced on February 13, 2020.
The charge to which Singh pleaded guilty carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, a term of supervised release of up to three years, a special assessment of $5,100, and forfeiture of the $2,200 Singh was paid.
