The Horseheads Central School District board of education held a special board meeting on Monday. WENY News sat in on the meeting at the high school at 7:30 Monday morning.
The district is looking to remodel a majority of the schools, such as the classrooms, library, and a hallway connector to connect the two buildings in the high school.
The district's superintendent, Dr. Thomas Douglas says “this board meeting was for the purpose of accepting bids on our high school portion of our main project, which is about 40 to 50 million dollars worth of work.”
Douglas goes onto say that 83% of the community voted in support of the project. This project has been in the talks for roughly three years now..
Susan Pirozzolo, with the Horseheads school district says, the first phase of the project was technology and safety upgrades along with other projects at the elementary schools, which was substantially completed last year. The second phase is the improvements and renovations at the High School, for which the bids were awarded Monday.
