Mansfield University Men's and Women's Basketball Teams Seek Bounce Back Seasons
MANSFIELD, PA (WENY) - The Mansfield men's and women's basketball seasons are right around the corner, as both teams will look for bounce back seasons.
The men's team finished with a record of 4 and 24 last season, and went 1-19 in conference play. WENY spoke with Head Coach John Szentesy about the changes he expects this season. He says, "I think first of all, work ethic has been improved over the last year or so. We have a lot more depth at the post position and at the guard position as well, so we're not playing guys 38 minutes like we've had to in the past. I really think we're going to surprise some people this year with the recruiting class that we've brought in."
The women's team fared similarly, going 3 and 23 and 1-19 in conference play. Head Coach Michael Whitling believes a change in style will lead to better results. He says, "I think we're trying to play a different way this year. We brought in a little bit more speed, and i think that's how we're trying to play, but honestly we're up for the challenge. We're up for the challenge of taking on the psac, its a very competitive conference and we have to be ready to go every single night."
The men's team will tip off their season against West Liberty State in the Shaw University tournament on November 9th at 2:00 PM. The women's season will also begin on November 9th against West Virginia Wesleyan College at 5:00 PM in the IUP Tournament.
