Police: Caretaker charged with murder after man found dead in Arc of Steuben home
HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) – A caretaker has been arrested after police say a man was found dead in an Arc of Steuben Home in Hornell.
Police say at approximately 7:39 a.m. Monday, Hornell Police and ambulance personnel responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a neck injury at 65 Elm Street in Hornell.
After arriving on scene, they say they found 60-year-old Jay Sprague in an upstairs bedroom, dead with a wound to his neck.
Police confirmed during the press conference that Sprague was a resident of the home. Shortly after, they say 65-year-old Alan Schultheis of Hornell was arrested and charged with second degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. Police say Schultheis was employed to supervise the residents.
It is currently unknown if there were any other people inside the home at the time of the incident, or if Schultheis was on the clock.
He was scheduled to be arraigned in Hornell City Court Monday evening.
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
