Man arrested in Ithaca for allegedly having loaded sawed-off shotgun
ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) – A Yates County man was arrested in Ithaca after police say they found a loaded sawed-off double barrel shotgun in his car during a traffic stop.
On Monday just before 6:00 a.m., an Ithaca Police officer reportedly saw a car traveling north on Elmira Road onto South Meadow Street, driving erratically and changing lanes without using a turn signal.
The officer pulled the car over in the 200 block of North Meadow Street.
The driver was identified as 37-year-old Joseph Herrick of Rock Stream. During the stop, the officer said they detected an odor of marijuana from within the car. Following a search of the car, Herrick was allegedly found to be in possession of that shotgun with the barrel length being approximately 12 inches.
Herrick was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and ticketed for not using a turn signal and unlawful possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to appear at the Ithaca City Court at a later date to face the charges.
