ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – The Elmira Kiwanis Club, in cooperation with the City of Elmira and Downtown Development, is now accepting applications for the 2020 Hometown Hero Banner Program.

The program in Elmira began in 2018. Officials say the city is rich in history and heroes, so they believe the program is a fitting way to teach citizens, especially children, about those who served from their own community.

Through the program, 239 banners featuring local veterans and service members who served throughout history have been hung throughout the city. This year, they are accepting applications for 75 more banners.

Applications can be found here
