WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) – Small Business Saturday is just a few weeks away. This morning, WENY News sat down with Paul Thomas, who is with the Watkins Glen area Chamber of Commerce. Thomas says Small Business Saturday is an annual event that always falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, the event will be held on November 30th. This is a day to recognize and highlight small businesses in the area.

Thomas says on Black Friday and other holidays as well, several big businesses get a lot of attention and customers, but often times, smaller businesses can be pushed to the side. This event is very fitting as it is held on the day after Black Friday.

On Small Business Saturday, families are invited to visit pop-up shops, there will be crafts for the kids to enjoy and holiday shopping season discounts. Discounted holiday shopping runs from December 1st all the way through the 24th.

Thomas and the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce hope for a lot of support from the community as they seek out small businesses in different communities. The Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce is supporting and hosting roughly 30 small businesses throughout Schuyler County and the Finger Lakes region.

Thomas also highlighted the Graft Wine and Cider Bar in Watkins Glen. This restaurant is coming back to the area soon as new owners recently took over. There will be a ribbon cutting for the re-opening on November 15th.

All are welcome to come on down to the visitor center in Watkins Glen on Saturday, which is located at 214 North Franklin Street.

All businesses who would like to get involved and register are asked to call the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce at 607-535-4300.
