8 Horseheads Student Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent
HORSEHEADS, NY (WENY) - Wednesday was a special day for Horseheads Athletics as 8 Blue Raider student athletes signed their National Letter of Intent to play at the next level.
Two of the Blue Raider's Girls Lacrosse players, Avery Snyder and McKenna Woodworth, both received academic and athletic scholarships at the collegiate level. Snyder, a 2-time Section IV All-Team selection and member of the Under Armour All-America and US Lacrosse National Teams, will be attending Coastal Carolina University. While Woodworth, who is also a 2-time Section IV All-Team selection and Horseheads' Team MVP in 2019, will play for the Golden Knights of Gannon University.
On the boys side in Lacrosse, Gavin Elston signed his NIL to play at Manhattan College next year. Elston, an All-State selection in 2019, has racked up 99 goals, and 53 assists for 152 points going in to his Senior year, and lead Division II in goals scored last season.
Three softball players signed their letters of intent on Wednesday as well. Therese (Tess) Cites is a 2-time All-State selection and did not make a single error at first base last season and will play for Division I Villanova. Abigail Packard is headed to UMass Lowell on an academic and athletic scholarship. Packard is a 2-time STAC All-Star. Lastly, Maiah Skakal also received an academic and athletic scholarship to Saint Peter's. Skakal is a 3-time STAC All-Star and did not make a single error behind the plate for the Blue Raiders last season.
In basketball, Jillian Casey signed her NIL to play for Division I Quinnipiac. For the last 3 years, Casey has many accolades during her high school career and has spent the last 3 years playing for BNY Select, an elite training and AAU program in Binghamton to prepare her to be competitive at the next level.
Lastly, Miranda Novitsky of the girls soccer team signed her letter of intent to play at Canisius next season. Novitsky also received an academic and athletic scholarship. Along with her many accomplishments during her high school career, Miranda also traveled with the GPS team in Binghamton, competing at a high level up and down the east coast.
