CORNING, NY (WENY) - The Corning football team won their first Section IV title since 2014 last Friday with a 14-12 win over rival Elmira. Now they set their sights on the rest of Class AA, starting in the regional round.

The Hawks will take on Section III champion Cicero-North Syracuse on Saturday at 6:00 PM at Vestal High School. CNS topped undefeated Utica Proctor 28-25 to advance to meet the Hawks in the regional round. Corning senior linebacker Seth Hogue tells WENY the Hawks are embracing the challenge. He says, "I think the team is feeling the energy, feeling confident. We have the opportunity to be the best Corning Hawk football team that has ever existed, so obviously that's huge, but we just gotta make sure that we stay focused, stay level headed, and get it done on Saturday."

Head Coach George Bacalles is not only excited for his program, but also the entire Corning community. He says, "I think it's exciting for all the seniors for all the work that they've done throughout the off-season, and all the kids on the team as well as the coaches. To have an opportunity to play in a state game, which we haven't done in 5 years, I think it's very exciting for the community as well."
