CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) – The American Red Cross of the Finger Lakes is accepting nominations for its annual Real Heroes Breakfast, which will be held on March 27 at the Corning Museum of Glass.

The deadline for nominations is December 6.

Proceeds from the Real Heroes Breakfast benefit the Finger Lakes Chapter which serves Chemung, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates counties.

Last year, the chapter reportedly responded to 92 local disaster incidents, installed 520 free smoke alarms as part of the Home Fire Campaign, trained more than 5,000 people in first aid and CPR, provided 454 case services to military members, veterans and their families via Service to the Armed Forces and collected more than 13,000 blood donations from volunteer donors.

Officials say the Real Heroes Breakfast grew out of a “desire to host an event closely related to the mission of the Red Cross”. At the breakfast, the Red Cross honors people who have shown “courage, dedication and unselfish character by their acts of heroism and service in our community”.
