TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.(WENY)-- Officials at the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport found a time capsule from 1994 while working on airport updates. Officials told WENY News that they were aware of a time capsule being present on the grounds, but they were not sure where it was located. Once construction commenced, crews found the box in one of the terminal walls. The box was filled with items from 25 years ago such as news papers, magazines, and other historical memorabilia.

"We're going to re-bury what we dug up from the original dedication and we're going to add comparable kinds of material to the new time capsule and then in early January we'll be having a community celebration for the airport and that's when we'll put it back in a vault," says Michael Hall, Airport Director.

Hall told WENY News that they are currently accepting suggestions as to what should be put in the time capsule before it is re-buried. He said they are not only going to include the new items, but put the original items from 1994 back in for the next crew to find in another 25 years or so.
