HORSEHEADS N.Y.(WENY)-- The holiday season is in full swing in the village of Horseheads as the 35th annual Holly Days kicked off Saturday afternoon. The community gathered in Hanover Square at the beginning of the festival where the was live music, dancing, food, and of course a guest appearance by Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Along with all of the fun holiday themed festivities, local shops were welcomed out in Hanover Square to endorse shopping locally this holiday season. The night ended with the traditional tree lighting to signify the start of the holiday season.

Despite the cold temperatures, locals and out of town guests bundled up and enjoyed the sounds and sights of this Horsheads tradition. WENY was able to speak with festival attendees who raved about how the community gathering together to put on this wonderful festival.

Sadly, Holly Days is a one day only event, but it will be back again next year and organizers hope that this event inspired the community to shop local this year and meet their friends and neighbors.
