Local group searching for volunteers to lay wreaths for fallen veterans
WELLSBORO, Pa (WENY) -- The FFA chapter at the Wellsboro High School is giving back this year by partnering with Wreaths Across America to lay wreaths at the Wellsboro Cemetery. But they're in need of your help. FFA stands for Future Farmers of America and is a national organization.
"FFA is more than just farmers, there is public speaking, tractor driving, AG mechanics, and even some landscaping," said Wellsboro High School 12th grader, Nina Coolidge.
This project is the first time the group has partnered with Wreaths Across America.
"So far we have about 75 sponsorships, which currently there are over 750 veterans in the Wellsboro Cemetery," said Coolidge.
One of their biggest challenges is trying to find volunteers to help lay wreaths.
"We will be laying the wreaths at one section of our cemetery, seeing we only have around 75 sponsorships," said Coolidge. "So the more people that come out and help us lay the wreaths, the quicker it'll get done and show our respect to the veterans."
For members of the FFA, it's all about showing appreciation to our local fallen heroes.
"It shows that we are honoring and remembering those veterans who gave their ultimate sacrifice to us," said Coolidge. "They may be gone, but they are not forgotten."
If you're interested in volunteering, all you need to do is come to the Wellsboro Cemetery at noon on December 14th.
