ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Chemung County Meals on Wheels and Simmons-Rockwell partnered up to deliver some holiday joy to those in need. Simmons-Rockwell Subaru has been a partner with Chemung County Meals on Wheels for over 10 years and has chosen the non-profit to give to as a part of their "Share the Love" event.

"This year we were very fortunate that they chose both us and Corning Meals on Wheels as their hometown charities," said Chemung County Meals on Wheels Executive Director, Darlene Ike. "So for every Subaru that's leased or bought, they're giving both of us $25."

The money that's donated will go straight to Chemung County Meals on Wheels to use however they want. Employees from the dealership also gave their time to deliver meals and stockings. Organizers say they've received donations of either money or items to help pack 600 stockings for the elderly.

"Most of these seniors, or a lot of these seniors, don't get a Christmas present because they're alone," said Ike. "They're homebound, or maybe they can get up but they don't have family around that they can get a Christmas stocking. These stockings are literally loaded with gifts and toiletries and all sorts of fun things, candy. This is their Christmas that we're making sure they have."

For the ones receiving a little something extra with their meal deliveries, it means a lot.

"It's wonderful because if it wasn't for them, maybe some of us wouldn't get anything at all," said Meals on Wheels recipient, Margaret Gleckner. "I got kids, a few left. So they always take pretty good care of me."

Giving out stockings has been something Chemung County Meals on wheels has been doing for about 5 years, and they're looking to continue the tradition.
