President Trump's ex-private lawyer seeks cooperation credit
NEW YORK (AP) - President Donald Trump's ex-personal lawyer says he deserves early release from prison for cooperating with authorities. Michael Cohen wrote in a court document filed Friday that federal prosecutors are engaging in character assassination against him as they oppose his lawyers' request that he be released before his three-year term is over. Cohen maintains he deserves early release for telling investigators about the president's misdeeds. Cohen was sentenced in 2018 after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations and lying to Congress. He began serving the sentence last May. He wants his prison time reduced to one year and one day.
