NASCAR Makes Changes to Increase Competition at Road Courses, Including WGI
WATKINS GLEN, NY (WENY) - NASCAR has announced rule changes that will directly impact racing at Watkins Glen International.
Officials announced rule changes Tuesday for the 2020 Cup Series Season that will introduce a reduced-downforce package designed to enhance competition on road courses, and the Circuit's shorter oval tracks. Watkins Glen International is one of the most famous road courses on the Circuit.
According to NASCAR, the changes include significantly smaller spoilers, splitters, and other aerodynamic devices. They are being made in an effort to place a greater emphasis on handling and driver input, with less stabilizing downforce on the tracks. The package will use similar rules to those of the 2017-2018 seasons.
The Go Bowling at the Glen returns on Sunday, August 16th.
