PAINTED POST, N.Y.(WENY)--  The annual Painted Post Farmers Market was able to open bright and early on Saturday morning with plenty of local goods to offer. The market opened right at 10 a.m. and community members instantly began filtering in and out throughout the day. This years market did have some differences compared to years past, as they have to follow CDC guidelines.

"Well I marked out the spaces at six foot intervals so people can keep a safe distance. I've spaced the vendors out farther so that we can have more space in between us, more social space," says Cathy Halm, Marketing Manger of the Painted Post Farmers Market.

Halm told WENY News her customers were so happy to see the market was able to open as they were excited to shop local and get products some have not been able to get at their local supermarkets.

"Everybody has been commenting on the grocery store shelves and how empty they are, so I think it is important we establish a local food system and have it be more reliable and a safer system then a national one," Halm tells WENY News.

Saturdays market only ran until 2 p.m. but Halm said they plan to be open every Saturday for the rest of the season. She just asks anyone who would like to attend the market to please bring your own mask and follow the six feet apart markings, too keep everyone safe.
