Southport woman charged with falsely reporting an incident to police

SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) – Police arrested a woman in Southport for allegedly falsely reporting a robbery and assault.
On October 13, Chemung County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Sherman Avenue in the Town of Southport for the incident, which 21-year-old Katie Messina claimed happened at Universal Park.
Police say Messina told them a man tried to rob her and the two got into a physical altercation, during which Messina claimed she was cut with a knife.
According to police, Messina had a “superficial laceration” and was treated at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
Deputies and investigators looked into the incident and say they learned it never actually happened. Messina was arrested for one count of falsely reporting an incident. She was released on an appearance ticket and will be arraigned at a later date.
