Schuyler County holds Second Annual Farm Trail Weekend
ODESSA, NY (WENY) - The Second Annual Schuyler County Farm Trail Weekend was held this Saturday and Sunday. Ten farms across the county opened their doors to the public.
Activities such as hayrides and apple picking were offered from the farms. In addition, guests were able to purchase milk, apples, jams, veggies, hand-crafted cheeses, and many other farm-sourced goods.
Sunset View Creamery Farmer and Cheesemaker Jess Hoffman felt this weekend wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. She expressed how her perspective might provide a unique experience for others.
“For us, it's kind of a normal day here," Hoffman started. “But many people, they don’t get the chance to come out so they were able to come this weekend and kind of experience what we do offer.”
She continued by explaining how weekends like this one are great ways to inform the community.
“This weekend, to me, is all about making sure that people know that their food is from a safe source,” Hoffman said. “It’s really just coming and figuring out where food comes from as only 2% of the population is involved in agriculture, and even less that in dairy.”
The Sunset View Creamery is a dairy farm nestled in the rolling hills of Odessa, N.Y.
