SOUTHERN TIER, NY (WENY) -- Hundreds of people gathered on local overpasses on Interstate 86 Wednesday, in support of semi-truck drivers headed to Washington, DC.

The rally is in support of the so-called "Freedom Convoy" headed to D.C. to protest COVID-19 mandates. Groups of supporters gathered on overpasses across the Southern Tier, as the convoy departed from Rochester and traveled through the region.

The rally is one of many across the country, following a multi-week blockade in Canada, and protests over COVID-19 restrictions.

The convoy aims to choke traffic around the nation's capital, to draw attention to their cause.
