Ithaca Man And Woman Arrested For Shots Fired At Hotel

ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) - An Ithaca man and woman were arrested after a report of shots fired at a hotel.
On March 28th, Tompkins County police responded to a report of shots fired at an Econo Lodge on Triphammer Road in Ithaca.
Police saw a red Jeep attempting to back out into a parking spot in the rear lot of the hotel. When marked Sheriff's Patrol Units drove toward the Jeep, the Jeep attempted to pull out of the parking spot.
Police approached the car and asked the people inside if they had heard gun shots. They noticed bullets near the cup holders and a rifle on the rear seat.
The driver was identified as Anthony Coyne, 25 and the passenger as Leigha Briggs, 22. Both from Ithaca.
During the investigation Briggs admitted to firing the rifle into the air for no reason. Coyne was found to have a previous felony conviction which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
Coyne was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony. Briggs was arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor. He was also arrested for Criminal Trespass, a Class A misdemeanor due to his involvement with the shots fired complaint at the hotel.
He was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket. Briggs was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree.
The previous night on March 27th New York State Police and Tompkins County Sheriff's deputies responded to the same location for a shots fired call. It was discovered that a rifle round had left the Econo Lodge and entered a nearby business.
No injuries nor any suspects were identified. That investigation is still ongoing.
