CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) - The Corning Police Department is warning residents of a mail scam going around the city.

The package is from an organization calling themselves "Citizens Behind the Badge." They claim to raise on funds on behalf of the Corning Police department.

Although the organization is a registered non-for-profit group, both the police department and the Crystal City Police Benevolent Association has no association with them.

"The Police Department would like all residents to be aware that this is circulating around our community," said Jeff Spaulding, Corning Police Chief. "Please be aware, and residents should do their own research anytime they receive any type of fund-raising requests to try and ensure that the request is legitimate."

The City of Corning does not receive the funds donated and it is believed that the donated funds do not stay in the community.
