Local pastry shop to celebrate Father's Day by giving back to community
PAINTED POST, N.Y. (WENY) -- One Painted Post bakery is celebrating Father's Day by giving back to the community.
Bast Patisserie in Painted Post always tries to make the holiday special, and wants to continue that tradition this time around, but with a twist.
"What we want to do this time around is reach back out to the community," said Store Manager Brian Chan. "During [the height of the] COVID-19 [pandemic], a lot of the elderly had not been able to see family and friends, and we wanted to change that."
As a result, the pastry shop organized a Father's Day get-together at Absolut Care-Three Rivers in Painted Post. Chan explained the main goal of the event is to rebuild a bond with the community that seemed to dwindle during the pandemic.
"We've been reaching out to high schools in the area to have them do some community service hours [at the event], and hopefully to be able to expose them to relationship building in the community," he said.
The event will feature a recital where younger children will be playing music for the elderly, games to play with the residents and, of course, delicious pastries from Bast Patisserie itself.
"We're gonna make father's day macarons as well as some sheet cakes," Chan said. "There are different designs [on them] like a donut or a 'Super-Dad' [logo]."
Volunteers for the Father's Day event will meet at 12:45 p.m. in the parking lot of Absolut Care-Three Rivers on Sunday. Volunteering for the event is also not limited to high school students; anyone can take part. If you are interested, you can call Bast Patisserie at 858-405-8659 or 858-500-2595. You can also send the shop a message on either its Facebook or Instagram page.
