ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) - An Ithaca man was arrested in Elmira after allegedly dropping a pistol while running from a traffic stop.

According to the Elmira Police Department, 25 year old Carlos Rodriguez was arrested this morning at around 1:30 after officers conducted a traffic stop on East 2nd Street Near William Street.

During the traffic stop, EPD said Rodriguez gave officers a false name and then ran from the stop.

While running, Rodriguez allegedly dropped a loaded 9 millimeter pistol. EPD says he was taken into custody a short time later and was discovered that he was on parole from an earlier weapons charge.

Rodriguez was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and false personation.
