WELLSBORO, PA (WENY) -- A new queen was crowned Saturday evening, to serve as the 2022 Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen.

This year's queen is Regan Regina, who represented Wellsboro High School in this year's Queen's pageant. Regan was crowned queen out of 26 candidates, representing high schools from across the state of Pennsylvania. The competitors are nominated by their schools, and travel to Wellsboro for a full weekend of events and activities.

Ms. Regina will serve as the Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen for the next year, serving as a representative of the Laurel Festival at Wellsboro's Dickens of a Christmas event in December, and returning next June to crown her successor. 

As queen, Regan also receives a $3,000 academic scholarship. She plans to attend college at Penn State University Park, with a goal of studying aerospace engineering and eventually working for Lockheed Martin. 

First runner up in this year's pageant was Ashley Rich of Central Mountain High School, and Ruby Muse, representing Montoursvile High School was second runner up. Each also received a money in the form of an academic scholarship.

This year marked the 80th annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro. WENY's Renata Stiehl served as one of the judges for the queen's pageant.  The evening's ceremony was held at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts. The Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival is hosted by the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce.
