BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) - After winning their second straight New York District 6 Title, the Big Flats 10-12 year old majors little league baseball team eyes an even deeper run into the summer as they get set to play in the New York Section 1 East Tournament this weekend.

Big Flats will face District 8 Champion, Fayetteville Manlius in the first round of the tournament on Sunday at 2 PM at NBT Field in Cortland. The tournament is double-elimination, so if Big Flats wins on Sunday, they would play Camden Little League in the second round on Monday. With a loss, they would play the loser of Vestal and the District 5 Champion also on Monday.

The Sectional Tournament is scheduled to be played throughout the week, with the Championship game on Saturday, July 23rd.

Big Flats has just one loss this summer and topped Waverly, 6-2 earlier in the week to capture the District 6 Title. After that victory, the team discussed the mindset and keys to success as they enter a new tournament.

"We know we're going to face tough teams with tough pitching so we've got to get our bats ready," said Head Coach, Kevin Doane. "I think our defense is good, I think our pitching is good. We've got to come ready for some pitchers that can throw really hard and probably throw some curve balls and changeups that we're not used to seeing."

"It's going to be key to get runs first," said infielder and pitcher Johnny Graham. "If we let up runs first, then it's going to be a tough game."
