HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - The high school football season is a little over a month away. Student-athletes are participating in summer workouts and 7-on7 events, but in no time, they'll hit the gridiron for the 2022 season as Section IV has released the 2022 regular season schedule.

This year's Section IV regular season will begin on Friday, September 9th, and Saturday, September 10th.

In week 1, defending Section IV Class AA Champion Corning will host Newburgh for a non-league matchup, while Elmira takes on Ithaca. Horseheads will also open their season at home when they face Binghamton.

In Class C, Waverly is scheduled to travel to Owego, and in Class D, defending State Champ Tioga heads to Newark Valley. After capturing a Regional Title in 8-man football last season, Spencer-Van Etten/Candor moves up to Class D and will host Susquehanna Valley for their first game.

Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour is listed as an 11-man Independent, they will travel to Harpursville/Afton in week 1.

Lastly, in 8-man football, Edison hosts Greene, and Notre Dame clashes with Groton at home.

Two weeks before the Section IV season begins, the high school football season in the Northern Tier will be in full swing as the 2022 NTL season is set to begin on August 26th. The week 1 matchups can be found below.

Athens has an open date in week 1 as of now, but Athletic Director J.B. Sullivan tells WENY Sports they are looking to fill that date with an opponent.
