Police: Texas man rams fences at Elmira-Corning Regional, tries to get into locked plane
BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A man from Texas was arrested after he allegedly tried to get into a locked plane after driving through two perimeter fences at the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport on Wednesday evening.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, 34-year-old Craig S. Wang of Murphy, Texas, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, and a number of traffic violations.
The Sheriff's Office says Deputies were dispatched to the airport around 6:28 p.m. Wednesday evening for a report of a vehicle that drove through the perimeter fencing. The cargo plane that Wang is accused to of trying to get in to, was locked and secured. Deputies say Wang is not a licensed pilot, and has no privileges to be in secure areas on airport property.
The Sheriff's Office says Deputies notified the TSA, and the FBI of the incident. Deputies were helped on scene by members of the airport's operations team.
The Sheriff's Office says at no time were members of the public in danger during the incident, and that Wang had no knowledge or skill to fly an aircraft.
