Jasper Sunflower Maze in Full Bloom
JASPER, N.Y. (WENY) -- A new sunflower maze is taking full bloom in Jasper. This maze's beginning is a love story. A husband wanted to grow his wife a patch of sunflowers and it turned into a whole field of them.
Brianna Siegrist’s husband, Ezra, helped turn her dream into a reality.
“Last year, my husband planted a whole bunch of different things in this field and I made him do me about a half-an-acre of sunflowers and it was just so pretty; I wanted to do the whole field,” she said. “I thought it would be so fun to come out with other people and wander in the fields.”
This is the Siegrists’ first year opening a sunflower maze to the public. Out of all the different flowers and vegetable crops Ezra tried to plant, the sunflowers did best in their field.
“The sunflowers just did really good and then, Brianna liked where the sunflowers were so I saved her half-acre and they bloomed and were beautiful,” he said. "This year, she said, 'We want more sunflowers.'”
Brianna said business has been booming since yesterday's grand opening. She said the maze is a fun pit stop for families and couples. Hundreds have visited in the past two days.
“It's been great...we've had so many people,” she said. “It's been very busy.”
Visitors can get lost in over a mile of paths in the maze. There are mystery, maze puzzles and selfie spots for people to enjoy, as well. Brianna said the best time for people to stop by the maze is the evening.
“The best time is...between 6:30 and 8:30 at night because it's...golden hour,” she said. “It's the best for pictures.”
The maze will be open every weekend in August. Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The maze is located at 3465 State Route 417, Jasper, New York.
