ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY)-- It was a "Super Awesome Party In The Park," Tuesday evening in Ithaca. Local best-selling author Megan Shull celebrated the launch of her latest book, Billion Dollar Girl

It was the perfect evening for a party in the park. Despite the rain, it didn't dampen the positive vibes at Shull's book signing for her sixth novel.

There was rhythm and rainbows at Stewart Park during this party. That's where the book signing for the launch of Billion Dollar Girl took place. Shull is an accomplished author; her novel Swap was turned into a movie available for streaming on Disney+ and there are plans for her novel Bounce to be turned into a movie also.

But tonight Shull said she is super excited to share Billion Dollar Girl with readers, especially in her hometown of Ithaca. She explains tonight's turnout was amazing.

"Oh my gosh! It's so much love. It's beautiful! I think that's why I like living in my hometown honestly, you have a sense of community and a sense of connection," Shull said.

Billion Dollar Girl is all about a sense of connection.

"That's what I strive to do for kids, is to help them feel a sense of warmth and connection with just a good feeling, so this story has a really good feeling," Shull said.

Hundreds came out for tonight's book signing launch party.  There were sweet treats, good music, and great energy. The line to get a copy of Billion Dollar Girl signed by Shull grew longer and longer, eventually going out the door. That didn't stop one young avid reader and her mom from getting her copy of the novel.  She was excited to meet a local author and get her book personally signed.

"I think it's really great because kids my age can actually see themselves in a book in so many different scenarios," Allegra Lafalce said.

That's the connection Shull wants young girls to feel and know, that they are not alone.

"I want them to read the book and love it so much that they want to sleep with it under their pillow. I just write books to help kids feel soothed and less alone that they can do anything," Shull said.

Odyssey Bookstore in Ithaca partnered with Shull for tonight's event and will be donating 10% of the sales to Family and Children's Service of Ithaca.

Billion Dollar Girl is on sale now wherever books are sold.

You can order your copy of Billion Dollar Girl through Shull's website HeyMegan.
