ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - The Elmira College Women's Basketball season is just a few days away, and the Soaring Eagles are excited about this year's group.

Elmira will tip off the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Penn College. The Soaring Eagles' first home game is set for Saturday, November 19th against Wells College.

EC returns key contributors and leaders from last year's team including Desiree Roy, Alyssa Waters, and Taylor Albrecht who were the team's three leading scorers, all averaging in double-digits. This year's roster also features some local talent from the Twin Tiers, including Waverly's Olivia Nittinger, Odessa-Montour's native Sara Gardner, Tioga's Olivia Ayres, and Northeast Bradford's Victoria Rought.

Elmira finished last season 10-15 overall, but they're optimistic about this team's ability to grow and compete whenever they take the floor.

"We've got girls that are bought into the program and in what we're doing and they're fun to be around," said Head Coach, Thad Phillips. T"hey are working extremely hard to build a competitive program, and as a coach that's one of the biggest things that you ask for is your team just to buy in and work and they've been doing that on a daily basis. It's a lot of fun to see."

"We've got a good blend of those girls that are coming back that have that experience, and then we brought in some freshmen that have been able to come in, fit in with our team, fit in with our characteristics that we're looking for and the work ethic that we really entrust our girls to bring" Phillips added.

"Everyone is super positive and I feel like everyone is working really hard this year, it's different than what I've seen the past four or five years now," said senior forward, Taylor Albrecht. "We have a big freshman class so getting them ready for this season is also very important."
