ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A large fire is burning at what appears to be a warehouse in Elmira Heights on Prescott Avenue. Firefighters from across Chemung County have been called in to assist.

According to officials from the Elmira Heights Fire Department the building is the old Elmira Knitting Mill.

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown, and firefighters at the scene expect to be there throughout the night. According to firefighters on the scene getting water has been a challenge as a massive amount is needed to suppress the blaze.

A large portion of the building originally burned down in a 2016 arson fire set by teenagers. The damaged portion was demolished, however the undamaged section remained which is what caught on fire Monday night.
