HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY)--Santa Claus is coming to town. The village of Horseheads that is. He's been making his rounds with the Horseheads Fire Department and was spotted on Miller Street Monday evening.

It was the last day of the third annual Horseheads fire department Santa Sighting. Kids waited patiently for Santa to come by on the Christmas fire truck. Six year old Autumn, her bother Zachary and their mom came out early Tuesday evening to see Santa. When he came by riding in the fire decorated with lights and all the Christmas trimmings she waved with excitement.

The Horseheads fire department started the tradition started during the pandemic.

"We go out in the village of Horseheads and bring Santa Claus and this year the Grinch to the children and to the public. The firefighters pass out a little small gift to children that come out to see us," Fire Chief for Horseheads Fire Department Arthur Sullivan said.

Kids can also expect to see fire trucks decorated with lights, and all the Christmas trimmings. One new addition to this year's event was Mr. Grinch. He rode around on top of a fire truck waving to kids and was in good spirits. He also had a positive message for kids this season.

"Listen to your parents they have the best interest in their hearts for you," Mr. Grinch said.

Jolly Old St. Nick also with a message for kids to spread joy and cheer.  That's what the Christmas spirit is all about.  It's something the Horsehead's fire department enjoys doing every year.
