Elmira Police respond to shooting investigation
UPDATE 01/24/2023: According to EPD, 34 year old Jeremy Shazer was identified as the victim of the shooting. He was pronounced dead after being discovered by police in the driver's seat of a car after they responded to reports of gun shots on West Miller Street.
UPDATE 01/21/2023: Elmira Police Investigators were able to determine that the suspect in this case is Shamel T. Swan, a 29-year-old Elmira resident. Swan was granted an Arrest Warrant for murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I Felony.
According to the Elmira Police Department, officers were able to safely take Swan into custody without incident.
Elmira Police said, as a result of this investigation, Swan was arraigned in Athens Township Town Court and remanded to the Bradford County Jail on $1,000,000 bail and is awaiting extradition to Chemung County.
This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests could be made.
The victim's name is still not going to be released at this time, out of respect for the family.
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- This morning Elmira Police Officers responded to a shooting investigation on 210 W. Miller St. for a report of gun shots in the area.
When officers arrived they immediately located the victim of the shooting, who was in the driver seat of his vehicle.
Officers, along with Elmira Fire fighters and Erway personal, administered medical care and transported the victim to the Arnot Ogden Medical Hospital.
The initial investigation has revealed that both the victim and the suspect knew each other and that it is not a random act.
