ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Opie, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA!

Opie is a one-year-old Coonhound-Treeing Walker mix who is naturally playful and trusting. This ball of energy loves long walks with cuddles afterward. He gets along well with other dogs, but the shelter has listed him as "choosy" due to his energetic personality. For the same reasons, he would not do well in a household with cats or children under the age of 10.

Opie will soon be getting a bunch of new friends to play with once the SPCA receives a new batch of adoptable puppies at the end of the week. If you're looking to add a young puppy to your household, the shelter encourages all who are interested to submit a general application. That way, you can meet the puppy who is the perfect match for your household without having another one on your mind. Applications can be submitted here.

The SPCA is also looking for volunteers for its Spay/Neuter and Vaccine Clinics. Applicants should specifically have availability on either Wednesdays or Sundays. They must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, help the animals, assist the veterinarians and be able to handle the surgeries.

The shelter also has a few spots left open for its Vaccine Clinic on Tuesday. Those interested are encouraged to sign up on the SPCA's website immediately before spots fill up.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Opie, fill out an application on the SPCA's website here.
